Let's do the time warp again...

The other day a woman called my pipe major to see if he knew of anyone who she could hire to play at her wedding. He said he'd pass on her number to his better pipers.

Within an hour of her calling, he got in contact with me, his Pipe Sgt, who happens to be a 17 year old girl. I promptly called the woman back. She didn't seem too old, and I explained that I am Wes's PS and he asked me to call her about piping at her wedding.

Her voice immediately dropped. And she said "oh....I was looking for a man..." If I would have been able to jump through the telephone, that woman would be dead.

However, I remained civil, and gave her the number of my friend Eric, the only other person on our band who plays for weddings/funerals. As soon as I hung up with her, I got on the phone with him and told him what had happened.

This was all a week ago. Yesterday the lady called Eric and asked if she could hire him for her wedding. To which he replied "well Brittany probably would have been willing to do it for $150...but I'll have to take off work that day, and I'll need to charge extra for the distance I'll be traveling. So it'll be $400 for me." She seemed disappointed, but agreed to have him play for her wedding.

Today she called Eric back and said "i think 400 might be a little much.." and he said "well Brittany would probably still be willing to do it, but i don't think she has grown a penis yet."

She hung up.

Has anything like this happened to any of you ladies? How did you react? Is this common? this is my first time encountering any type of sexism in the bagpiping world. And I've been playing for almost 7 years
